about us

Moniton Pictures was formed in July 2005 by Andy Cassels having been involved in the Scottish film industry as a film-maker since 2001. He formed the company (originally named Workshed Films) with the assistance of fellow film-makers Andrew Gunn and Peter Smith.

In October 2005, the company changed the name to Moniton Pictures Ltd.

The name ‘Moniton’ comes from an abbreviation of “C’mon the ‘Ton” a popular encouragement from the terraces of Cappielow Park where Andy frequently supports his local football team Greenock Morton. The aim of the company is to offer a quality alternative for the Scottish film community to the high costs involved in hiring film equipment from established rental companies.

Throughout the majority of 2005, Moniton focussed on the hiring of equipment and no films were produced until early 2006. ‘Party Piece’ was the first Moniton Pictures short-film completed in late 2006. Shot during early January 2006 in Glasgow, the film starred Jonathan Rush, Carmen Pieraccini, and Kenny Fulton. The film was a dark comedy shot and edited on HDV using equipment from the company. Further information on this film can be found in the film archive section.

The remainder of 2006 was spent planning various film projects for 2007 and establishing the company as an equipment rental house increasing the variety of equipment available and hiring equipment for films, music videos, documentaries and corporate projects.

2007 began with pre-production beginning on ‘Séance Fiction’, the second Moniton Picture after ‘Party Piece’.
